The 10th Spring Fest 2024’ of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama, got underway on 8th March with Abu Metha, the advisor to Chief Minister as the special guest and Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil as the guest of honour on the theme “Timeless Tradition”.
Speaking the inaugural programme, Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil appreciated the Students and the Staff for the great initiative in organizing such a meaningful event to provide ample opportunities for the students to show case their talents also providing an avenue for preserving the rich Naga cultural heritage. Abu Metha also conveyed his deep appreciation to the Catholic Community for their contributions to the society. He said that Catholic institutions have gone to the difficult areas to provide humanitarian services uch as education and health care services since the time of statehood and even before. He also said that he himself is a proud product of Catholic education.
Metha encouraged the students to be hardworking, he said that nothing can beat hardwork and if one is hardworking then success will follow. He also encouraged the students to be a contributing member not only after their graduate or marriage but even today as students. In today’s world power is determined by knowledge therefore he encouraged the students to make use of the tools of today’s technology to empower themselves with knowledge. The Special Guest also wished God’s blessing and inaugurated the 10th Spring fest of the college by gun shots along with the other special invitees.
Other items of the programme followed where the college choir presented a special song, the blossoms with their dance and a special appearance was made by Lenen Jamir.
The activities of the ‘10th Spring Fest 2024’ included competitions of folk dance, war cry, pork fat eating, traditional fire making, modern dance, strongest Josephite, beat contest, stilt walking, catapult shooting, tug of war, go kart race etc.
