13-16 May, ONGOING FORMATION PROGRAMME FOR NORTH EAST DIOCESAN PRIESTS

The ongoing formation programme for diocesan priests from the North East, jointly organized by the CCBI Commission for VSCR and hosted by the Diocese of Kohima, was held from May 13 to 16, 2025, at Mount Tabor Retreat house, Kohima. Participants included priests from the Archdiocese of Guwahati, Dioceses of Jowai, Nongstoin, and Kohima. The resource persons were Frs. Charles Leon, Jaison Vadassery, and Cyril Victor from the CCBI team, Bangalore.
Day One – May 13, 2025
The programme began with tea and registration, followed by the inaugural session and the introduction of the CCBI facilitating team by Most. Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, the Bishop of Kohima, Nagaland. Frs. Charles and Jaison outlined the programme’s objectives, methodology, and core content. The first introspective session delved into the ongoing formation of clergy and the missionary character of pastoral ministry, followed by the “Emmaus Walk and Talk,” Holy Mass, and dinner.
Day Two – May 14, 2025
The day began with Morning Prayer and Holy Mass led by Bishop James Thoppil. The sessions that followed emphasized the missionary identity of every priest, reflecting on the Post-Synodal Exhortation on the Synodal Church and diocesan data. Themes included discernment for mission, personal spiritual conversation, pastoral challenges, and best practices. In the evening, Fr. Cyril Victor led a session on Synodal Communication in the digital environment.
Day Three – May 15, 2025
The focus shifted to pastoral and digital dimensions of mission. Spiritual conversations continued under the theme “What God wants for our Mission 2033,” emphasizing pastoral implications. Sessions also explored creative missionary engagement in the digital world and tools for digital evangelization. The day concluded with a visit to Mary Help of Christians Cathedral, Kohima and a dinner hosted by Bishop James Thoppil.
Day Four – May 16, 2025
The final day focused on pastoral leadership, with emphasis on power and care in missionary priesthood. The programme concluded with a session on “Mission Action Plan,” reflective sharing, evaluation, and final remarks.
