The Sacred Heart Church Khuzama joyfully celebrated its Golden Jubilee on April 26 and 27, 2025, under the theme “Be Strong and Let Your Heart Take Courage” (Psalm 31), marking 50 years of vibrant Catholic faith in the community.
The two-day celebration commenced with a poignant tribute to the late Pope Francis by Mr. L. Kenneth Punyü, Advisor of the Angami Catholic Union, who opened his address by honoring the beloved pontiff’s legacy. Stressing the importance of Christian virtues, he called on the faithful to embrace faith, courage, and truth in their daily lives.
The highlight of the Jubilee was the solemn Eucharistic celebration led by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima. He was joined by Rev. Fr. Valerian Castelino, SJ, Regional Superior of the Kohima Jesuits, as Guest of Honour, along with a host of priests. Emphasizing the identity of the Church as One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic, Bishop Thoppil urged the faithful to rededicate themselves to a renewed mission of faith and evangelization, both personally and as a community.
Bishop also administered the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation to children, marking a significant spiritual milestone for the parish on its 50th anniversary. He reminded the faithful of their call to be instruments of God’s mercy, bringing healing, hope, and building the living Church — the true temple of the Holy Spirit.
