28th April, Fiat Mission

The FIAT Mission, marking the 6th Great Gathering of Missions, was held from April 28 to May 4 at Changanassery, Kerala. The Diocese of Kohima was represented by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Fr. Gwatilo Alex Tep, Sr. Larisha, and Sr. Mini of the Providence Sisters. The event brought together hundreds of faithful each day for mission exhibitions, spiritual instructions, and retreats. The program began daily at 8:00 a.m. with catechetical sessions followed by the Holy Eucharist. The opening Mass was presided over by Cardinal George Alencherry, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church.
A notable highlight was the visit of Mar Thomas Tharayil, Archbishop of Changanassery, to the Kohima Diocese stall. Donning traditional Naga attire, he addressed the media and interacted warmly with visitors, many of whom enthusiastically tried on the cultural attire.
On the third day, bishops from North East India concelebrated the English Latin Rite Mass, with Most Rev. Linus Neli of Imphal as the chief celebrant. Among the concelebrants were Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, Most Rev. John Thomas, Bishop Emeritus of Itanagar, and Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Menamparambil, Archbishop Emeritus of Guwahati. The choir was led by priests and religious from Northeast India.
The FIAT Mission served as a unique platform for missionaries across India to share their apostolates. It also fostered a spirit of unity, allowing participants to witness and experience the richness of the various Catholic rites in India, praying and learning together.
