Students and faculty at Loyola Hr. Sec. School in Kiphire were treated to an inspiring session 13th and 14th March by the multi-talented Rev. Fr. (Dr) Stephen Touthang, a renowned motivational speaker and musician. The event, held at the Loyola campus, featured both a captivating musical performance and a powerful motivational talk aimed at guiding students towards their future aspirations.
The assembly began with Dr. Touthang’s musical piece, which deeply resonated with the audience, creating an electric atmosphere that stirred the entire gathering. Following this vibrant opening, Dr. Touthang engaged Class 10 and Class 12 students in a motivational session, focusing on the critical role of education in achieving one’s dreams.
He challenged the students with a fundamental question: “What is the most important duty of a student?” His unequivocal answer emphasized studying, directly linking academic effort to the realization of life goals. Dr. Touthang stressed that a lack of dedication to studies often reflects an absence of dreams or purpose.
In a thought-provoking segment, he encouraged students to identify their “enemy.” He defined this not as a person in the conventional sense, but “any person or material that disturbs, distracts, or disconnects you from your study.” He cautioned that even a close friend could inadvertently become an obstacle if they lead one to waste time, control their actions, or deter them from their academic pursuits. He firmly asserted that hard work is the cornerstone of success and urged students to cultivate clear dreams and dedicate their time relentlessly to achieving them.
Dr. Touthang illustrated his philosophy with anecdotes from his own remarkable journey. His academic achievements are extensive, including a Doctorate in Education from Rajiv Gandhi (Central) University, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, multiple Master’s degrees in English, Education, and Sociology, and an M. Ed. He has also cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Beyond his academic prowess, he specializes in Teachers’ Effectiveness Training (TET) and conducts orientation programs for educators. A prolific author, he has penned six books, including “Substance Abuse,” “Dare to Dream,” “Career Planning Resources,” “The Illuminati and the Music Industry,” “Meta-Siazing,” and “Pedagogy of English Language,” with another title forthcoming.
A particularly resonant piece of advice for the young audience touched upon personal relationships, with Dr. Touthang recommending that romantic relationships be postponed until educational and career dreams are fulfilled.
