Bishop made his visit and offered mass for the MSMHC Sisters on their 10th General Chapter in Hatigoan, Guwahati on 23rd January 2024. During the mass Bishop thanked the sisters for the invitation to celebrate the mass and pray together on the important occasion of the 10th general chapter of the congregation. He said that he accepted the invitation inorder to express his deep gratitude for the many sisters who have worked, and are working in the diocese of Kohima, weathering all difficulties and challenges.
Bishop began his homily by imploring God’s abundant blessings on every member of the Congregation on behalf of the Priests, Religious and the Faithful of the diocese of Kohima for the fruitful conduct of the General Chapter. He said that only by reading the signs of the time by the power of the Spirit can the congregation continue to be relevant according to the founding charism and vision of the founder. Only then the spiritual growth and temporal welfare of its members can take place becoming more relevant and effective in carrying out the mission.
He pointed out that the Chapters that every religious Congregation holds is an occasion for critical examination and in-depth study of the Gospel and Church documents visa-a-vies the Religious Constitution of the Congregation in the context of the changing needs and the signs of the time, therefore he wished that the chapter becomes another important stage in the growth and development of the Congregation keeping and developing its original founding cherish and missionary thrust.
Based on the day’s readings Bishop also shared his thoughts on Leadership as the sisters will be choosing their new leadership team. Leadership he said involves the supernatural intervention that calls for intimacy through prayer, teaching and preaching – which is the Mission. This is possible only when one is able to forgive unconditionally and such a person has to be a person of deep humility to accept God’s plan and accept one’s deficiencies and drawback.
He concluded by imploring God’s blessing and inspiration to choose whom he wants to lead and guide the congregation.
