The blessing and inauguration of the newly constructed MSJ Convent at Chümoukedima, Nagaland, was held on 7 April 2026. The convent was built with the generous support of the Italian Bishops’ Conference under the guidance of the Diocese of Kohima. It serves as the residence of the Medical Sisters of St. Joseph (MSJ), who are actively engaged in the ministry of St. Joseph Pain and Palliative Care Centre.

The blessing ceremony was solemnly conducted by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima. The Eucharistic celebration and inauguration were presided over by the Bishop in the presence of Rev. Mother Merina MSJ, Superior General of the Medical Sisters of St. Joseph Congregation, and Rev. Sr. Divya MSJ, Provincial Superior of MSJ Nirmala Province. Sisters from various MSJ communities, including Aluva, Itanagar, and Nongstoin, also participated in the joyful occasion.

The formal gathering commenced with a warm welcome address by Rev. Sr. Divya MSJ, Provincial Superior of Nirmala Province. A special session titled “Remembering the Milestone” was presented by Rev. Sr. Cicil Therese MSJ, Councillor for Formation and Mission of Nirmala Province, highlighting the journey, vision, and efforts that led to the realization of the new convent. Rev. Mother Merina MSJ, Superior General, felicitated the gathering and expressed her gratitude to all who contributed to the project and the mission of the congregation. The vote of thanks was delivered by Sr. Teris MSJ, Superior and Administrator of St. Joseph Pain and Palliative Care Centre, who acknowledged the support and presence of all the dignitaries, benefactors, and well-wishers.

The event was graced by the presence of priests, religious sisters, benefactors, neighbours, and well-wishers who gathered to witness and celebrate this significant milestone. The newly inaugurated convent marks an important step in strengthening the mission and presence of the Medical Sisters of St. Joseph in Nagaland.

The celebration concluded with a thanksgiving gathering and fellowship meal, offering an opportunity for all present to express gratitude to God for His blessings and to rejoice in the growth of the congregation’s mission in the region.
