Newman Pastoral Centre – Chümoukedima, Diocese of Kohima organized Catechetical Certification Programme for Catechists and Lay Leaders from January 2023 – January 2024 in 2 time slots. This year it was from 8 – 14 January.

It is part of the Splendour Project in collaboration with Christian Institute for Theological Engagement to provide academically validated certification training to faith educators appointed in the various Catholic dioceses and parishes around Asian Region using God Redeeming our World (GROW) programme.

The course was animated by Rev. Deacon Dr. Sherman Kuek OFS, a permanent deacon of the Catholic Church, a secular Franciscan, theologian and a teacher from Malaysia.

The course covered plethora of topics like, Sacraments, Second Vatican Council Documents, Morality, Teachings of the church, Old Testament, New Testament etc.

Out of the 38 who attended the course, 33 of them received the certificates since they attended the course for two consecutive years. Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima handed the certificates to the trainees after the Holy Eucharist at St. Joseph Parish Church – Chümoukedima in the presence of the Parishioners.
