At the recently concluded General Body Meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) held in Bangalore, it was decided to observe Friday, March 22, 2024, as a “National Day of Fasting and Prayer” across all dioceses in India. This special day of observance is dedicated to lifting up our hearts and minds in prayer for the Church in India and for the country, seeking God’s grace, guidance and blessing especially in the context of the forthcoming general elections. Through a collective prayers, we can invoke divine wisdom and discernment upon all those invoked in this democratic process. A communiqué from the Bishop’s house Kohima says that by this it is hoped that this “National Day of Fasting and Prayer” be a moment of deep spiritual refection, repentance and renewal for the people of India, opening to God’s will, trusting in His mercy and providence.
