The Lotha Catholic Khümshüm Kohima marked its Golden Jubilee on 22 February 2026 at the LCKK Community Hall, Peraciezie, Kohima. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, with Yanthungo Martin Patton, Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, as the Special Guest.
Observed under the theme “One in Christ, United in Mission,” the celebration highlighted the community’s commitment to unity, evangelization, and shared responsibility in strengthening the Church’s mission.
The jubilee flag was hoisted by Rev. Fr. Matthew Mhabemo, Parish Priest of St. Francis De Sales Church. Bishop Thoppil blessed the Golden Jubilee monolith and the grotto of Mother Mary, while the monolith was unveiled by the Deputy Chief Minister. Earlier, the Jubilee Hall was blessed by the Bishop; the ribbon was cut by Johnny Humtsoe and the Jubilee candle lit by R. David Yanthan.
In his homily, Bishop Thoppil congratulated the community for fifty years of steadfast faith and witness. Recalling the early acceptance of the Catholic faith among the Lotha people, he compared it to emerging from darkness into light, urging the faithful to remain rooted in Christ. Linking the Jubilee theme with the Lenten season, he reminded the congregation that unity in mission flows from unity in Christ and called them to prayer, repentance, and spiritual renewal.
During the felicitation programme, Deputy Chief Minister Patton praised the pioneers of the community for their perseverance and strong faith foundation. Referring to his visit to Vatican City for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, he emphasised the importance of unity beyond denominational differences. He also spoke on environmental protection, preservation of the mother tongue, unity among Naga tribes, and the importance of education and responsible use of technology. He assured the gathering of his continued accessibility in public service.
The Holy Mass was chaired by C. James Ezung, while the felicitation programme was chaired by Sorenbeni Esther Yanthan. The celebration concluded with gratitude for the past fifty years and renewed hope for continued unity and mission in the years ahead.
