SCCG Marks Triple Jubilee in Chümoukedima with Golden, Silver and Platinum Celebrations

The Sisters of Charity of St. Bartolomea Capitanio and St. Vincenza Gerosa (SCCG) celebrated a threefold jubilee at St. Joseph’s Convent, Chumukedima, in the Diocese of Kohima on Saturday (14 February 2026). H.E.Msgr. James Thoppil offered the Holy Eucharist along with many other concelebrant priests.

The celebration marked the Golden Jubilee of the Religious Profession of Sr. Magdalene Athisa SCCG, the Silver Jubilee of St. Joseph’s Convent, and the Platinum Jubilee of the canonisation of the congregation’s foundress, St. Bartolomea Capitanio, and her first companion, St. Vincenza Gerosa.

A commemorative silver brick was laid to symbolise the sisters’ dedicated service in education, pastoral ministry, boarding care for young girls and family outreach. The convent is part of the Northeast India Province of the SCCG, which currently has 194 members.

The Northeast Province was carved out of the Kolkata Province in 1993 and is presently administered by its fifth Provincial. In India, the SCCG operates through eight provinces.

The congregation’s presence in Chumukedima traces back to the invitation extended by Bishop Emeritus  Jose Mukala, who encouraged the Sisters of Charity to contribute to the mission of the Diocese of Kohima through education and pastoral work, living their charism of love, compassion and self-giving service.

The platinum jubilee also commemorated 75 years since the canonisation of St. Bartolomea Capitanio and St. Vincenza Gerosa, who were declared saints in 1950 during the Holy Year by Pope Pius XII. Founded on a mission to serve the poor, the sick and the marginalised, the congregation continues to carry forward the legacy of its foundresses in caring for youth, orphans, widows, prisoners and others in need.

The jubilee celebration highlighted the enduring spiritual and social contribution of the Sisters of Charity in Northeast India.
